Instead of taking of their tops off – like the girls who inspired thousands to do the same with their Topless Travel Tour around the world – some people prefer to take off their pants! While riding the subway!!
In the category of kickass Microadventures falls The No Pants Subway Ride. It is an annual event originally staged by ‘Improv Everywhere’ every January in New York City. The mission started as a small prank with seven guys and has grown into an international celebration of silliness, with dozens of cities around the world participating each year. The idea behind No Pants is simple: Random passengers board a subway car at separate stops in the middle of winter without pants. The participants behave as if they do not know each other, and they all wear winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves. The only unusual thing is their lack of pants.
And like the ‘Topless Travel Tour’, The Naked Handstander & the World Naked Bike Ride taking off layers of clothing bonds people and makes for some awesome snapshots from (subways) around the world. Pictures of people in their underwear have been streaming in from across the world, with cities such as London, Berlin, Brussels, Hong Kong and Sydney taking part.
The 2014 No Pants Subway Ride: A global strip down event
Every year the kickass stripdown silliness of the no pants subway ride spreads further like an oil spill around the globe. The 13th Annual No Pants Subway Ride took place on January 12, 2014 in over 60 cities in over 25 countries around the world and included tens of thousands of participants showing some bare thighs, hips and (hairy) legs. An occasional twerking has been reported! Oh it is as Sharika once said “hips don’t lie”.
No Pants Subway Ride 2015
In 2015 once again more people took off their pants and hopped on the metro as the years before.
The Origins of the Pants-i-less Movement
Here is an overview of the history of The No Pants Subway Ride dating back to its inception in 2002. You can learn more about the history of this event and of the initiators ‘Improv Everywhere’ in their new documentary feature, We Cause Scenes. They do some pretty kickass stuff and explaina bit more about the No Pants movement they started.
Thanx for giving us a legit reason to take off our pants guys!
We love it.
And we woud like to encourage all those ‘no pants subway riders’ to take or their tops and shirts of in June during the annual World Naked Bike Ride day where people pedal in their birthday suits!
