Instead of taking of their tops – like the girls who inspired thousands to do the same with their Topless Travel Tour around the world – some people prefer to take of their pants! While riding the subway!!
In the category of Microadventures falls The No Pants Subway Ride. It is an annual event originally staged by ‘Improv Everywhere’ every January in New York City. The mission started as a small prank with seven guys and has grown into an international celebration of silliness, with dozens of cities around the world participating each year. The idea behind No Pants is simple: Random passengers board a subway car at separate stops in the middle of winter without pants. The participants behave as if they do not know each other, and they all wear winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves. The only unusual thing is their lack of pants.
And like the ‘Topless Travel Tour’ taking off layers of clothing bonds people and makes for some awesome snapshots from (subways) around the world. Pictures of people in their underwear have been streaming in from across the world, with cities such as London, Berlin, Brussels, Hong Kong and Sydney taking part.
The next No Pants Subway Ride will take place in January of 2015. The date will be announced in December. So stay tuned for some real cool dress down fun in the middle of winter.
Here is an overview of the history of The No Pants Subway Ride dating back to its inception in 2002. You can learn more about the history of this event and of the initiators ‘Improv Everywhere’ in their new documentary feature, We Cause Scenes. They do some pretty kickass stuff and explaina bit more about the No Pants movement they started.
Thanx for giving us a legit reason to take off our pants guys!
We love it.
